Re: Invicta - deceiving the public since 19??
There is actually no deception there...the watch do have 41 jewels .
Movement manufacturers have been drawing a grey line with jewels, largely because there is now an ISO standard for jewels that state that they have to be functional at reducing friction and wear. That means that movement manufacturers can add jewels to places that are theoretically subject to friction, but where the use of jewels remains of questionable (or no) benefit.
The practice of adding useless jewels to a watch to add a perceived value was widespread ...not an Invicta thing

It's a very interesting practice that I have never seen before. I still feel playing fast & loose with the image that a higher jewel count portrays is deceptive and I'm happy to see it's been fixed.
I still like that watch in the link though.

It is a deceptive in the way that implies more jewels equals more quality, no doubt ...based on that rationale though, Seiko's 7S36 implies that somehow 2 more useless jewels will made the movement somewhat different (in a good way) than the 7S26...is all marketing and marketing is by nature, deceptive..AJC wrote:It's a very interesting practice that I have never seen before. I learned a long time ago, if a watch, with an ordinary mechanical movement, has any more than 21-25 jewels they are pretty much useless.
I remember reading that your everyday mechanical movement only has use for about that many.

Maybe this was Eyal's grandmother's work...all kidding aside, this really IS an example of playing a bit fast and loose with the truth. Good reading above, btw...learn something everyday, I do. (And no, I am not speaking like Yoder...)
