How bad can it be TV edition part 2????
" Say hello to my little friend!"
Was watching this movie was laughing the whole time if you think of this guy and these other 2 and Jill man hands
Let me introduce the next in the how bad can it be series the Invicta Akula!
Not so little at 52mm and 15mm
For me this a step in the wrong direction but had to be done. The man on the TV was saying "This is the new hotness and the bestest ever!"
The movement is nothing to right home about it's a Rhonda 5040D! This is an older model with dual deployment with the cut away strap which in my judgement is crap.
Size reference photo this should make you laugh.
Sorry guys not my best review. I have had a real hard time putting this review together . I have written this one 3 times before. I know what it is and why, if you know me you know how I am.
In short know what your buying before doing so. To me this watch isn't worth more than 40 or 50 bucks.
Part One for those that missed it. http://www.watchforums.org/t1085-how-bad-can-it-be-tv-edition-android-powerjet-9100

I bought an Akula once, after months of thinking it was the coolest-looking Invicta I'd ever seen. I opened the box and just said "WTF?!?!". Sold it immediately, and my buyer said the exact same thing.

Why do they have to be so thick? I'm guessing that the movement doesn't need all that room, is it just a lot of wasted space?

That's how they sell these things, Russ, it's crazy. I still tune into SNBC every now and then to see what's up and hear the half-drunk rednecks call in to boast about their collections.
But everything is "this is extremely difficult/expensive to build...". Meanwhile, it's just added stainless steel to give the watch more useless weight. That same movement will fit in a case less than half that height. Invicta fans want attention-grabbing watches, be it good or bad attention.

Don't be so hard on yourself, O; you got your point across quite well, and I would hazard a guess that anyone else who has read it, as well as those who will soon read it, will agree with me.
Besides, I got a real kick out of the lead-in pictures, especially my all-time least favorite 'guest presenter,' Jill Slobberstein, with her lispy, mouth-fulla-marbles presentation style...we used to have a drinking game that involved taking a shot whenever she uttered the word 'tritnite.' We cut it back to half a shot, then just a sip of sippin' whiskey, but we still got too inebriated...
I have owned two akulas, one on leather and one on silicon. I swear, whoever came up with the idea of mating a rubber strap to a deployant clasp must have been either an idiot or a sadist...or both. I ended up paying 60 bones for a replacement strap so I could sell the damned thing on feeBay.
The leather version was just plain uncomfortable from the start. The dad-blamed strap (or, if you're Jill Slobberstein, "schtrahppe") is just about too thick to break in.
And then, of course, you have that 'engineering marvel' that is the case...to quote my favorite Engineer, Commander Mongomery Scott of Star Fleet: "The more complicated they make the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." Just like the cable on the first Bolt, I'm left wondering why, as in why the fcuk did you put that into the design...?
Other than that, the Akula's a great watch...

A nice review of a very, very bad watch, John. Believe me, I've owned some watches so fucking bad I literally couldn't even bring myself to write anything about them. *cough* Smiths Everest *cough*

Conjurer, I would be interested to hear what some of the issues were that you had with your Smiths Everest. I've never seen one in the flesh but they seem to be pretty popular over at WUS.conjurer wrote:A nice review of a very, very bad watch, John. Those watches are beasts. I was the buyer that bought Andrew's. What an insane size!
