Stowa Antea 390
Stowa Antea 390 (Day/Date)
I ordered this in mid March and it just came in last week. With the EURO's slide, I didn't mind waiting. Think I ended up saving 20 or 30 bucks during the 3 month wait. The total cost shipped from Stowa including shipping and conversion fees was $752.00. Still very new to me so I am just going to post the particulars and some pics.
Comes packaged in the Stowa metal box. Not sure what the pouch is for? Do people put watches in those things?
The case is high polished and comes in @ 39mm in diameter with a lug width of 20mm. With the smallish bezel it wears a little larger. The lug design seems to stretch it out a bit too. 5 ATM water resistant with a sapphire crystal.
I LOVE the dial on this thing. In fact it's the reason I had to have it. The font is PERFECT (to me anyway) and the white numerals and hands just look great against the black. I could have done without the day indicator or even the date. But the way they did it looks pretty good. Since I was hellbent on a black dial I had to accept the day/date or drop down to 35.5mm.
The watch has an exhibition back (also sapphire) showing an ETA 2836-2. The initial accuracy checks aren't very good. +15secs per day (24hrs) even with me changing positions frequently. It kinda sucks having such a beautiful watch that runs that fast. I considered sending Stowa a whining email about it but what's the point. I ain't sendin' it back.
The crown is a good size for winding and is signed. The strap and buckle are also signed. The strap is ok I guess but I won't be wearing the watch until the new strap comes in.
ISSUES
The only issue I have at this point is the accuracy. But like I said, what's the point in whining to Stowa about it when I'm not going to send it back anyway. Would like to hear you guys chime in on this. A couple more pics and thanks for lookin'.

She is one sweet piece DB. As far as the accuracy is concerned, it may settle down after a period of time. They often do..............

Watch porn just what the doctor ordered. Nice pick up as Biged said it should be fine after alittle while. If not you can just send it to me for safe keeping.

That is flat out beautiful. I concur that some settling will occur re: accuracy. All of the ETA watches I have experienced drastic acceleration only to settle in to a very accurate rate.
Just a fantastic watch.

If I were Conjurer, I would say that this watch gives me a huge, empurpled and turgid boner...but since I'm just good 'ol Mort, I'll say, damn, DB, that is a seriously gorgeous piece of watchmaking awesomeness...or words to that effect. FWIW, even my Valgranges and Valjoux watches need a little 'settle time,' usually a few days to as much as a week.
Well Done, sir...

I am a big Stowa fanboy and have owned many. The fit/finish on their watches is excellent and the timing on them is supurb. One interesting fact is that Jorg personally inspects and times each watch prior to it leaving the factory...now that is great QC!

Yup , believe or not , the purpose of the pouch is to store the watch while traveling...crazyDBCooper wrote:Stowa Antea 390 (Day/Date)

As far as the accuracy goes and in my experience is no such thing as the watch (any watch) "settling down", if is fast or slow? ..it will remain that way, until adjusted properly.

Agree with eddie on this one. Just adjust the daily rate yourself. I made a post on WL about this:
http://watchlords.forumotion.net/t17564-like-tinkering-with-watches?highlight=tinkering
Since you know the daily rate is +15s/day, all you have to do is turn the little screw near the +- symbol to the - side and only 2 ticks. that should get you a really good daily rate.

Re: Stowa Antea 390
I haven't checked it since eddie. I'm not an accuracy freak so I can't tell when just wearing it for a day or two. I will set it, watch it and let you know.

I'm glad this thead was bumped, because this watch gives me a huge, empurpled and turgid boner.

I don't know what to say Sam... that watch is capable of a lot better, granted you are not anal about accuracy but ...me thinking, the watch is worth a pro-adjustment.
