New Britain Watches
Just saw this on Hodinkee. In the price range I'm not sure if they will take off or not!

Hmmmm a "manually wound Unitas 6498 that has been tuned up to COSC standards" for $3,200? nice indeed but respectfully, I'm going to call bullshit, Here is one of mine , not tuned to COSC standards but keeping COSC standard time, like most Unitas do ...for about $400+- new.....

Re: New Britain Watches
Nice looking, but it's my opinion that they're overshooting the asking price around 4-5x
Eddie's right. Nice, similarly styled watches with the same movement can be had for $6-800 all day long, usually for less.

Re: New Britain Watches
For those of you have already heard, I apologize. However, it is relevant to this thread. My wife is giving me this Archer Sterling:
http://www.archerwatches.ca/sterling.html
with that movement and at $1075 Canadian ($1100 US) it is far more attractive as well as also being adjusted/regulated to a very high standard. He even sends a DVD of each watch being assembled and adjusted with the purchase.
Finally, what the fuck is that on the crown? They couldn't just engrave a logo and tone it down a bit for $3200?

Indeed Anthony , exactly my point... the Unitas is such a good movemet even when not adjusted, that is actually not much more to do as far as accuracy, to justified that crazy price......nice looking watch that Archer BTW.madhu wrote:For those of you have already heard, I apologize. Re: New Britain Watches
Thank you.
My wife is awesome for letting me pick it myself. the dial closely resembles my grandfather's pocketwatch.
I have to say again, for about the price you were describing I am getting real, heat blued hands and screws and beautifully decorated bridges, plates, and wheels.
I didn't mean to be completely negative about the New Britain, I do like the aesthetics and hell, I love my Smiths! But the truth is that I am getting more watch for less money.
