WBOTD 9/29/12: Bathys Hawaii Watch Co.

Post by wottime on 2012-09-29, 01:17

Bathys is definitely on the radar for me. Love the simplistic design. Use of uncommon material like Ruthenium. Good movements, automatics ETA 2824-2, ETA 2892-2, or Sellita movements. Cool case backs. Just something about them. From Bathys' website: http://bathyswatch.com/main.php

Founded in 2005, Bathys Hawaii Watch Co. reflects the vision of its founder John Patterson:

"Hawai'i is a land where the raw power and beauty of Nature is directly available to everyone. The strength of the ocean and the newness of the earth here mean that one must be at all times aware and respectful of the forces of nature - otherwise you can get hurt - or worse. This is a place where mistakes can have consequences. My watches are designed to work regardless of the amount of abuse they have to take. Here in Hawai'i you might be at 13,000 feet up Mauna Kea one day and 100 feet underwater the next. There's not many places on Earth where such extremes are a routine part of life."

Thanks guys.
Mark

I like some of the models, they seem well made...what about pricing?

Quartz with the Swiss Rhondo, around $300. Autos with ETA 2824, $500 to $800. Autos with ETA 2892 $700 to $1200. The top pic, 100 fathoms is $695.

IWB(azteknight, I believe) at WL did a great review on his 100 Fathoms.

That is the one that I sold him! Nice watch with a "Ruthie" dial. I sold it because of the crown size!

I really do like my Bathy's, but I fucking hate the crown... okay, maybe not fucking hate, but strongly dislike. The movement as stated, is a bit grittier than I would like and the timekeeping was not up to par, it kept something around +18s/day. I tweaked it myself back down to +1s/day which made me much happier. Still my favorite weekend watch. Love the looks of it on nato:

And what a dial:
