They are some who believe that it is prudent to let a vertical clutch column wheel chrono run full time, that is to avoid wear and tear as you engage and disengage the clutch.... How much is debatable, but it does introduce some wear and tear.
On the other hand , they are others subscribing to the school of thought preaching that, in letting the chrono run full time, you will also introduce wear and tear , How much is also debatable, plus you will definitely loose some of your power reserve (fact that is not debatable) , some even feel that the accuracy, is affected somewhat, this is debatable as well...
That been said , I personally suscribe to the second ...I don't use the chrono function that much, that I need to be worry about the clutch wear and tear , treasure my power reserve
and think it is unnecessary to run the chrono full time.

Agreed. Most of these chronograph movements are decades-old designs, so one would think that most of the bugs were worked out by the manufacturers long ago. Chronos are designed to be turned on and off when needed, not to be left running.

Having said that, constant use of the chrono function (turning it on and off, resetting) the way that some of us turn the bezel on a dive watch, as a way of fidgeting, say, will probably cause wear and tear over time.
