A trip down Memory Lane...(UPDATED 6/20/12)

While picking through the trash file of my Apple photo program, I came across several watches that have graced my ownership, only to be sold off to fund something else. What I present is only a fraction of the watches I have flipped. The number was initially very distressing, having all my failed watch love affairs compiled in one place. Then I got to thinking, I really have very few serious vices. I don't drink to excess. I don't do illicit drugs. I don't gamble, smoke, or womanize. I'm not on the golf course hacking away for hours every weekend at expensive golf clubs. I drive a Honda (what could be more sensible?). Then I felt better about myself, and will use the above sensibilities if I ever run into heat from mrsneddles about watches.

Here are a few that struck me in reviewing the old photos, each with a little tidbit.

NOA Chronograph:
The legendary watch now owned by Koimaster. I sold it originally to eddiea. I loved the watch, but the lefty crown was always digging into my forearm, so away it went. I will probably own another down the road, but with a 3 oclock crown.


Renato Vulcan:
This watch was very pretty in the watch box, but I was never extroverted enough to actually put it on in public.


Campanola
This watch was fantastic. The kind of watch that makes you want to throw everything else you have away. I found I barely wore it though. It was too big for a suit, but also too dressy for sport wear. I sold it to buy a Panerai.


Renato Beast Diver
Why I let this go I'm still not sure. I sold it to one of my employees, he wears it frequently, which simply makes me covet it again. I hold out the faintest glimmer of hope that MZB Renato will do another.


Android Spiral Chrono
One of Wing's nicer models. Very comfortable with a nice high polish that wasn't too over the top. I am currently watching the used market carefully to replace it.



Accutron Corvara
This watch was hard to let go. The problem: no half-links to the bracelet. It fit me in two sizes, the first would turn my left hand blue and numb, the second would fall down and bang the back of my hand. A total shame, especially since other modern Citizen umbrella Accutrons have half links.


Doxa
If you have been around WL, you may remember the WALCA posting where Koi revealed that "Swiss" Doxas were just Chinese cases assembled in Switzerland. I was so disappointed and disgusted (felt the Invicta lies agony for the first time). Sold it to JAW for a song.


TRex
I would buy this configuration in a second if it were smaller. TRex=TooBig


Android Predator and Octopuz
Again, enjoyable designs by Wing. Failures on my 7 inch wrist.

Great posting, Neds! I could never relate to Bill Clinton when he said, "Ah feel yore pain," but now I get it. Each and every picture made me have to catch my breath, and then I felt a serious pang for how you must feel.

I enjoyed that photo essay immensely. Quite a few photos, but also quite an array of different styles.

Rado ceramic. Rados generally don't get much respect, WIS tend to think of them as toy watches. I remember my father getting one as a gift from my mother and it being a big deal, this was back in the early 80s. This model was nice, I just grew out of its cuff style. I flipped it without losing too much of its purchase price.


Helix. This was a fun watch which unfortunately couldn't hold up to the beater abuse I put it through. One summer of sun, salt water, sunscreen and the case detached from the integrated rubber strap. Pitched it.


NFW Autopilot. I got caught up in the Autopilot craze a few years back. Nothing wrong with the watch other than it was too big for a square. I also felt like a military poser when I wore it. Sold it without a loss.


Android. This was a one-off prototype. Sold it to the pseudo-watchmaker-thief-jailbird-watchgeek-Mehdi. He ripped me off $15 on the transaction.


Ritmo Centurion. Aside from the Hollywood/HBO Entourage connection hyperbole they used to push these with, it was a rather nice watch. Mechanical Unitas I believe. At 47mm square, it looked like a postcard strapped to my wrist. Away it went.


Accutron Gemini (Now one of the most recent design rip-offs by SO!). I didn't get it at the DOD steal so many grabbed it at. It is a great watch, but somebody (me) was temporarily poisened by geek kool-ade and felt it too small at 40mm. Sold it like a dummy.
