No huge fanfare here...this new-to-me watch can speak for itself...though, in truth, its dial color makes it very difficult to photograph.
Of course, these really bad photos do not even come close to revealing how amazing it looks 'in person.' (The glob at 6 o'clock is a camera glitch, as is the 'scratch' to the left of it.)
And, yes, it is my first 'Crown' watch...
...as always, thanks for stopping by.

I thought about replacing the jubilee bracelet with a mesh strap, or even doing the same thing Alberta Time did, adding a leather NATO. In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to make a change from its original equipment. Perhaps in a couple of years...

Sweet pick up. Is there a story behind it?

Re: A Very Nice Old Watch...Circa Mid-to-Late 1960s
Basically, and long-story-short, the original owner is a WWII & Korean War veteran, and he had given the watch to his son, who barely wore it because he had his own expensive watch that he liked a lot better. Still, he kept it with the idea that he would pass it on to his son. Fast-forward a few of years, and the son's son - the original owner's grandson - is kind of overwhelmed by the idea of owning and maintaining a Rolex watch, so grandpa gave his son permission to sell it, with the caveat that he sell it to a veteran, if at all possible...oh, and preferably an air force vet. I guess he was relieved that it went to a vet, though he was disappointed that it was a USN vet. In the end, my being a retired naval aviator made things acceptable...just.wottime wrote:Sweet pick up. Is there a story behind it?

Cool story Mort. Almost as cool as the pink Invicta story. Just joshing. That is a great story. Glad it ended up in the hands of someone that will appreciate the heirloom.
