Thanks, Eddie! Actually, it dates to 1959, when Elgin was making the "Lord Elgin" line to compete with the higher-end Swiss who were kicking our watch-making asses. It was given to my wife's grandfather by his employer, Corn Products, either on his retirement or for some sort of award, we're not sure which. Cay got it when her grandmother passed away a couple of years ago.

It's a 14k case, and when we got it the old duffer had put--naturally--a Speidel Twist-O-Flex bracelet on it. We had it restored by a guy that Pacifichrono over at BDWF recommended--he put on a new crystal (mineral glass instead of hesalite), a new strap, a case polish and a movement overhaul. I don't recall the movement caliber, but somebody at BDWF looked it up and found that it was made in 1959-60, and Elgin only made about a thousand of them. I wear it once in a while, Cay does as well--it keeps pretty good time.

The Tubes said it all...

She's A Beauty
Foster/Lukather/Waybill

Step right up and don't be shy,
because you will not believe your eyes.
She's right here behind the glass
and you're gonna like her,
'cause she's got class.
You can look inside another world.
You get to talk to a pretty girl.
She's everything you dream about...
but don't fall in love...
She's a beauty ---
one in a million girls,
she's a beauty.
Why would I lie?
Why would I lie?
You can say anything you like,
but you can't touch the merchandise.
She'll give you every pennies worth,
but it will cost you a dollar first.
You can step outside your little world.
You can talk to a pretty girl.
She's everything you dream about...
but don't fall in love...
She's a beauty ---
one in a million girls,
she's a beauty.
Why would I lie?
Why would I lie?
